How we met

“We met in Sydney in 2018. We were there to attend the Vivid festival to see Solange at the Sydney Opera House. Felis had gone up with her group of homegirls and me with mine. We had mutual friends within our two groups who organized a dinner before the concert. I saw Felis for the first time and I was hooked!”

“We first met at a vintage store in Sydney on a trip up to see Solange. When I saw her walk in, I was a little shy and hid behind some clothing racks. Later that same day we met up with Sharni and her crew at “Rey’s Place” restaurant. I sat across from her and after we’d ordered everything on the menu I watched her devour all of the delicious Filipino food and I knew she was the juan!”

The Proposal

I organized a surprise for Felis on her birthday, which also marked our 4th anniversary. I enlisted the help of our family and friends to pull it off. I planned dinner and an evening at a fancy hotel. Melo and Laura helped me select some cute outfits for Felis to wear. I asked for Mama Neds’ blessing and carried out my plan with the support of Babes, Jimmy, and Inday.

My Mom, Tina graciously allowed me to use my Grandma Edna’s ring, which Michael had collected and given to me just one day before he moved to NZ. Cam, Thandi, Lisa, Tama, and my big brother Adam helped calm my nerves and figure out what to say when I proposed at dinner. Like everything in our lives, it involved our community, and we couldn’t be more grateful. She said YES!

“I had no idea! She planned an elaborate weekend away and everybody we love and care about knew and contributed to the master plan!”
